Pełny opis: |
The main aim of the module is to expand students’ knowledge on basic principles of International Humanitarian Law. The student should have knowledge of current events, especially of ongoing armed conflicts, and should be able to verify information he/she receives from the media. He/She should be able to adjust the legal provisions of IHL to relevant situations. 1. Concept and principles of international humanitarian law 2. Sources of IHL 3. Ius ad bellum and ius in bello under the UN Charter 4. The complementary character of IHL and International Human Rights Law 5. Different types of armed conflicts 6. The distinction between international and non-international armed conflicts – problems of qualification 7. The status of combatant and prisoner of war 8. The protection of civilian population during armed conflicts 9. Child soldiers 10. Means and methods of warfare 11. The protection of red cross, red crescent and red crystal emblems 12. Implementation of IHL 13. National measures of implementation in peacetime 14. The role of the UN – resolutions of the SC and humanitarian action 15. The prosecution of war crimes by national courts, by ad hoc tribunals and by the International Criminal Court |
