A History of Britain. Lecture topics:

1. A lost continent and the new arrivals: from prehistory to migrations, invasions and colonisations. Celts, Romans, and Germanic Settlers.

2. Conflicts, infiltrations and influences. Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Normans and their Influence. The Anglo-Norman lordship of Ireland.

3. Looking for a(n) (ideal) kingdom: the high Middle Ages and the birth of a nation.

4. The Big Brother: England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland in the high Middle Ages and beyond.

5. The question of faith and new horizons: England, Ireland and Scotland under the Tudors.

6. The century of revolutions: the Stuarts, the Civil War and British parliamentarianism.

7. "Ebony, ivory and tea": mercantilism and the origins of British colonial dominance in the Age of Reason.

8. Coal, steam, steel and sweat: beginnings of the Industrial Revolution in the Eighteenth Century.

9. The empire of good(?) intentions: British imperialism in the Victorian Age.

10. Modernism and the turn of the Twentieth Century.

Metody dydaktyczne:

Wykład w j. angielskim (45 minut) z wykorzystaniem materiałów audio-video.

Metody i kryteria oceniania:

Egzamin w lutym 2018 roku. Data: 5 luty 2018.

W grudniu 2017 roku studenci otrzymają listę tematów do powtórki i opanowania przed testem.
