Metody dydaktyczne: |
The basic premise of the course is that selected readings in 20th-century and early 21st-century literary theory are training grounds for interpretive techniques and methods to be applied in a variety of contexts, including literature. The critical readings may be supplemented by literary works as illustrations for particular themes and issues. Most discussions will revolve round the possibilities of identifying theory and criticism as independent discourses, with their own terms of art and tradition, alongside literary history. Throughout the semester, the emphasis will be on developing each student’s critical skills. |
Metody i kryteria oceniania: |
Assessment: Each student is obliged to deliver a 5-minute presentation based on one of the readings in which they discuss a set literary work. Consistency of the interpretation and the use of relevant critical materials, alongside the delivery itself, will be assessed. No more than two absences are accepted throughout the semester. |
